Make Heads Turn With These Stylish Tall Boots

Miz Mooz Ibsen knee-high boot
When fall comes, many girls head for their closets and grab their tall boots. Whether you have a pair or need a pair (or perhaps another pair), you have many fashionable options in tall boots. Tall boots are not of one specific height, but most are designed to sit just below the knee. If you are short, you might have a harder time finding the right pair of boots that will hit at just the right spot, but there is a right boot for every woman.

Versatility

Though boots might not initially seem like a versatile clothing item, they are quite versatile. With the popularity of skinny jeans, many girls like to tuck their skinny jeans, leggings and jeggings into their boots. This is a pulled-together yet casual and comfortable look. But boots can also be worn with skirt and dresses. A slim skirt with a pair of high boots is a classic, refined look that many working girls prefer.

FitFlop FF Superboot tall toning boot
Our Favorite Tall Boots

The FitFlop FF Superboot tall toning boot is a good example of a boot that can do double or triple duty. Wearers report that it looks great with jeans or skirts and they get the added bonus of a toning element, which is great for city girls who walk a lot.

For a less casual but still comfortable boot, the Miz Mooz Ibsen knee-high boot is also a popular choice. This boot, which has slightly more of a riding look to it. This boot gets rave reviews from wearers who like the style and feel of the boot. Both of these boots are ideal for a number of reasons:

  • They are both leather, which is the best choice for an everyday boot
  • Both feature a rubber sole, which makes these boots durable, comfortable and versatile
  • Both are simple yet refined looking tall boots, and both look great with jeans and skirts.

We love boots for their comfort, durability and versatility, but the tall boot is in a category all its own. Get the right tall boot and you will find that you can pull an outfit together in no time. Even a simple pair of jeans and a T shirt take on a whole new feel when you pair them with tall boots.

Do You Know the Difference Between Ankle Booties and Ankle Boots? Here Are Two Examples

FitFlop FF Superboot Ankle Boot
They’re hot and hip and yet many women might not know the difference between an ankle boot and an ankle bootie. They are both fun to wear, comfortable and are sure to add zing to anyoutfit, but understanding the difference is critical.

The Ankle Boot

Ankle boots are somewhat as the name implies – they are boots that usually end at the ankle somewhere. However, they are a bit more forgiving than that. A true ankle boot could end one inch above your ankle or up to four inches above your ankle. Either is still considered an ankle boot. If you get a boot that ends more than four inches above the ankle, you are choosing a mid-calf boot and not an ankle boot.

The Ankle Bootie

Madden Girl Kholor Open-toe Bootie
To understand what an ankle bootie is, think about a shoe that looks like a half shoe, half boot. These booties are much shorter than an ankle boot, stopping either at the top of the foot or right at the ankle. Often, booties will also have cut-out sections or a peep toe. Ankle booties are the sexy cousin to the ankle boot. While black is the most popular color in ankle booties, you can also find these shoes in a wide array of colors.

Examples

We like the FitFlop FF Superboot short toning ankle boot. Not only is this bootie stylish, but it creates an excellent way to shape and tone your legs just for doing what you do everyday – walking. This is a practical boot that would be darling with jeans or leggings, with a tunic and leggings or with a short skirt and tights.

We also like the Madden Girl Kholor open-toe bootie. This bootie is sexy yet practical. It’s fun and unpretentious while also flattering for most women.

The best thing about boots and booties is their versatility. Take them to the park or to work, to a concert or to cocktail hour. Like most boots, your ankle boots and booties will be some of the most worn shoes in your closet. If you wear them out, you know what that means – it’s time to go shopping.

Get a New Look! How to Dress Stylishly for Work this Fall

Young working women are usually at the forefront of what’s fashionable. Once out of college and in the work world, most of us are excited to dress for work and keep an eager eye on what’s hot and hip. Fall 2011 is offering the fashionable among us a veritable treasure trove of options. There are no right or wrong choices and best of all, even if you’re not a super fashionable girl you can find something that still suits you.

Let’s look at some key elements to the fall 2011 season:

Patterns and colors

Stripes are hot right now as are bright colors. If you enjoy color, you can combine these patterns with bright colors, but if you’re a girl who favors black, you can still implement some of the popular striped designs into your wardrobe without feeling as if you have lost a critical part of your own personal style. Mustard is a popular color this fall as is grey. Both of these colors can be worn with basic black or can be dressed up and energized with another pop of color like red.

Coats

Coats this fall are interesting and fun. Peplum blazers, coats and vests are all the rage and they are thankfully forgiving and comfortable. They flatter most body types as well, a rare situation. No matter the style of coat you choose, remember that rust is the color of the season.

Dresses and skirts

Sometimes you want to put the pants away and dress like a girly girl. When those moods hit, consider what’s hot this season. Super popular is the "working girl" dress, which is a bit of a throwback style of dress. These dresses feature mid-length skirts and long, blousy sleeves. Some are structured like a shirtdress, but others are more feminine have the flowy sleeves to match. Also popular are chunky sweaters and maxi skirts. The contrast of the big sweaters with flowing skirts can be a fun addition to a cool fall or early winter day.

Bright pants

On days when you want to wear pants but are not feeling the basic black, consider the new trend of colored pants. Hot pink pants can add a surprising something to your workday, or you might consider rust pants or a mustard-colored pant that works with all the mustard and rust in your fall wardrobe. This fall, adding just a few updated things to a wardrobe can make it look new and trendy. Choose well and enjoy the fashionable results.

College Bound? Four Ways to a Chic, Fashionable Look This Fall

"Be in the habit of experimenting with your clothing so that you don't get stuck for life with a self-image developed over the course of high school." ~ Marilyn vos Savant

While the basic uniform of the female student is often sweats, flip flops and a hoodie, it’s not always the most fashionable. It’s comfortable, true, but not fashionable. Thankfully, fall 2011 offers some great ways for a hip student-age girl to be fashionable and comfortable at the same time.

Stripes

Don’t be afraid of stripes. Designers tell us that when worn well, stripes are fashionable, hip and flattering. One tunic-length striped shirt can add all kinds of style to a pair of leggings or jeans. If you are willing to think even more outside the box, consider wearing a slim fitting striped T-shirt under a comfortable blazer (back in fashion this year). This combination is sure to add style and a fashion-forward look to your wardrobe.

Jeggings

Pair that striped shirt with a pair of jeggings. These jean/legging combo pants are as comfortable as leggings, but look like skinny jeans. They really came into fashion last fall and are this year still a hot commodity. Be sure to try on several pairs of jeggings before making a decision. Some will fit looser in the leg, which might be more flattering if you have heavy legs, while others will be super slim. Some will have a higher percentage of stretch material while others will have a smaller percentage, taking away some comfort but also giving the pants a bit more shape.

Blazers

They are back. Because there’s a trend toward "modern vintage", this means that blazers are back with a vengeance. Once the wardrobe staple of students and working girls in the 70s and 80s, the blazer adds style to even the most basic of outfits. Jeans and a T-shirts are basics for college-age girls, and it’s a simple look. But throw a blazer over the T-shirt and jeans and you have a completely new (and much more pulled together) look.

Scarves

As always, scarves make the outfit. They provide warmth, color around the face, and a certain excitement to anything you put on. Be sure to invest in a wide variety of lengths, widths and colors. There are many ways that college-age girls can create a hip and trendy look for fall. Just a few small additions and it’s done.

The Latest: South Africa Fall Fashion

South African fashion trends for fall 2011 are mirroring those in the rest of the world. While some designers are offering show stopping (and likely traffic-stopping) looks, many other designers are offering colors, styles and outfit combinations that are easy for everyone to wear, not just those who favor designer looks.

Color

While bright colors are popular again, South African and other designers this year are favoring one neutral and that’s grey. Grey might or might not be the new black. While black favors just about every skin tone and color, grey can be a harder sell. One advantage that grey has over black, however, is that there are many shades of grey and many people who can’t wear a steel grey might be able to wear a charcoal grey.  Those who can’t wear the darker and slightly harsher charcoal grey might be able to wear a light grey. It’s a more forgiving color choice than black in many cases. Many South African designers showcased grey for fall 2011, using everything from tweed to silk to highlight the versatility of this color.

Style

Fashion runways will always showcase bright and exciting fashions. It’s almost a fashion law that there are one or two pieces or outfits in every show that make people stop and take notice. But aside from these given showstoppers, there are certain styles you’ll see again and again. We saw a lot of long, flowing dresses offered by South African designers this year. These are ideal for evening wear, but some of the dresses would also be appropriate for daywear, depending on the fabric and color. Women shy about their waists might want to do a few sit ups to get it defined because belts are back with a vengeance. Even evening dresses come with a soft fabric belt or sash. It’s all about defining the waist. On the whole, styles are basic and simple. Drape a scarf over a beautiful grey blouse and a pair of charcoal grey trousers and you’ll be right in the South African fashion mode.

Outfit Combinations

Our favorite looks for fall 2011 were some of the most often seen monochromatic looks that define and highlight one color. By coordinating the clothing, the leg wear (tights, for example) and even shoes, the fashion savvy get a solidly fashionable look while also creating a look that’s flattering to just about anyone.
